Aliens Among Us

Why Come Here?

Space aliens would have a lot of locations to consider for a visit. The Milky Way, which is not the largest galaxy in our local area, is stated to hold billions of stars. And "…galaxies are as numerous as grains of sand on a beach…" (The Friendly Guide To The Universe. Pp.299,303. Nancy Hathaway. Praeger).

"Travel Warning: The State Department recommends that residents of the Andromeda galaxy avoid travel to planet Earth because of unsettled and dangerous conditions."

The home base of space aliens could be a great many light years from the Earth (and with travel realistically at a good deal slower than the speed of light). Any information about this planet would be mighty old by the time the signal probes were sent out from the alien domicile and returned to them. The most recent information that the aliens could have would not show any civilization here. They might very well be looking around for more promising locations to visit before loading up a ship with provisions for a journey requiring possibly thousands of years in each direction. (I imagine that it would simplify matters if these creatures have a life span of thousands of years).

Please, be reasonable. I can't get into the question of how long a year is on other planets.

"Eight hundred light years! That would eat up most of my accrued vacation!"
